Moving Her Right Thumb

I get to blog on big news -- and I saw it today!

Riza said "I've never been able to move my thumb so much before."

"Really," I asked, "may I see it?" I was expecting barely perceptible motion (which would've been great) and I saw her moving a couple of centimeters either way.

"You're going to be tatting in no time," sez me. "And strumming," she says, moving her arm up and down in a strumming motion.

We are both so happy! She is moving to ourpatient care on July 19 and I think it is perfect timing and that they are best equipped to capitalize on this new capability.

Wonderful news, a wonderful day!

UPDATE: Kristen, her occupational therapist, has parlayed this into large arm movements as well. Riza can fully extend the arm and raise it back up against gravity. She can also rotate her wrist up and down.

Riza and JK
You have no idea how excited Stephen was to see you two walk into Wildwood recently! I am so bummed I wasn't there to see you, as well. Riza, you are Wonder Woman. You have inspired me in so many ways and I am so indescribeably proud of you!
I'm glad, too, that you are posting in your blog.
Thanks so much for sharing your triumphs and both of your golden spirits!
We love you both!

YIPPEEE!! Great news, Riza. Now that your right thumb is working, we can start hitch-hiking again. Where should we go? We have gotten out of the habit of checking the blog every day. What fun to see your new entries. We will have to put the blog back on our daily "to do" list. We have been busy taking care of a 2+ year old while his mom was having a baby. Last night, I got to sleep in my own bed again... what a joy. We will see you soon. Barb
